Systems Change for Student Success

ccer + the roadmap project

The Roadmap project is a collective action effort lead and staffed by Community Center for Education Results (CCER), focused on racial equity and closing the achievement gap in South King County. Their approach – organize a collective if organizations, school districts, governments, business and individuals aligned with their goals to bring about systems change. CCER Provides support though staffing projects and initiatives and providing a wealth of student, government and school data through their data team.

Through an in depth engagement I was able to help CCER + the Roadmap Project unpack a very complicated story and communicate their efforts in a an approachable (read non-academic) language. We elevated their story, encourages partnerships, and most importantly reframed the conversation around the achievement gap, racial equity and the systems that need to change in order for the Roadmap Project to reach its goals.

Discovery

While RMP came to us looking for a website refresh what they really needed to do was reframe their story. Through workshops, interviews, research and reading to develop a stronger understanding or their work we helped reframe the problem, their efforts and the long-term vision of the project.

understanding audiences

In order to unpack Roadmap’s story and vision we had to understand it’s partners. Through interviews, research, and input from stakeholders we developed personas complete with risks and opportunities so we could structure the story and site around their needs

mapping the content

With a rock solid understanding of the Roadmap project and its audiences we set out to develop a content structure that would elevate the story while delivering timely news, resources and engagement opportunities along the way.

Wireframing

Using a combination of Sketch and UX pin we developed wireframes and a click though prototype to allow our stakeholders to better understand the page structure and content flows as they mapped to intended workflows.

bringing it to life

We developed a visual approach that reflects the communities that Roadmap supports. Custom graphics and charts helped frame the story and data, stories and reports were pulled in to add context and depth where appropriate.
